The Royal Danish Embassy in Riyadh is seeking to recruit an energetic, pro-active and detail-oriented financial officer. The Embassy represents the interests of Denmark in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Yemen. The Embassy focuses on government relations, commercial affairs, support for Danish citizens and public diplomacy.

The financial officer is expected to ensure a continuous high level of compliance with Danish government standards as well as supporting the smooth financial management of key activities. The position requires a solid foundation in accounting, thorough understanding of administration and excellent cooperation and communication skills. Furthermore, the position requires flair for consular affairs, visa administration and a willingness to assist in the visa section during peak seasons as well as performing general administrative tasks. The right candidate will potentially become the vice consul of the Embassy. You are expected to show the flexibility required for an optimal handling of the entire portfolio of the Embassy and be ready to handle tasks outside your own portfolio.

Job Description

Your tasks will include:

  • Responsible for accounting and financial management including but not limited to accounting, entry of ledgers, invoicing, payment of vendors, bank and cash management and preparation of quarterly statements.
  • Responsible for budgeting as well as providing the management with budget follow-up and proposals for improved efficiency.
  • Develop a network with financial stakeholders, government agencies and other embassies to ensure compliance and implementation of new tools to improve efficiency.
  • Engage in consular affairs – in particular the visa related issues during peak seasons.

 

Qualifications

We expect that you:

  • Have a relevant background in accounting and preferably at least five years of experience from working in a government institution.
  • A team player that can deliver results and substantial inputs on a high level.
  • Is comfortable with deadlines and pressure.
  • Can build a relevant network and possess excellent cooperation skills.
  • Self-motivating and can initiate tasks without direct instruction.
  • Flexible with a service minded and positive attitude to new assignments in other areas of the Embassy.
  • A structured mind-set and excellent planning and coordination skills.
  • IT proficiency and solid skills regarding the Microsoft Office program and preferably Navision Financials.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Have a high level of integrity including a strong understanding of the Danish zero tolerance on corruption.

 

Employment conditions

This is a local position at Royal Danish Embassy in Riyadh, which is compensated according to qualifications and local conditions. You will be offered a full time permanent employment on a local contract based on the relevant local staff rules at the Embassy.

  • Your standard working hours will be 40 hours per week with some flexibility in organizing your own daily working hours.
  • You will be entitled to five (5) weeks of paid holiday per year accumulation 2.08 days per month.
  • Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results.
  • As part of your salary you will be covered by a workplace pension scheme.
  • You and your dependent family members will be offered reasonable coverage of sickness expenses.

The Embassy is seeking to recruit a curious and energetic Political Officer.

The Embassy represents the interests of Denmark in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Yemen. The Embassy focuses on government relations, commercial affairs, support for Danish citizens and public diplomacy.

The Political Officer will join a small effective team focusing on timely, precise and well written reporting and analysis of the political and economic development in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Yemen. Focus will be on solid research, participation in conferences and meetings, preparation of discussions with meeting partners, drafting of reports and analysis. The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as other Danish stakeholders will be the main receivers of the reporting, which requires an understanding of Danish values and political positions.

You are expected to show the flexibility required for an optimal handling of the entire portfolio of the Embassy and thus be ready to contribute to handling tasks outside your own portfolio.

Main tasks and responsibilities as Political Officer

  • Monitor and follow political, economic, cultural and rights based developments in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Yemen.
  • Timely, precise and well written reporting and analysis.
  • Preparation of meetings.
  • Participation in conferences and seminars.
  • Prepare presentations and tailor made political analysis.
  • Participate in the preparation of visiting delegations.

Required qualifications

  • Academic degree in political science, economics, international relations or similar.
  • 2-5 years of experience from a government related institution or similar.
  • Knowledge or experience regarding GCC Region, Denmark, the Nordic countries and EU would be an asset.
  • A positive, open-minded, pro-active, results-oriented and energetic attitude to handling of assignments.
  • A structured mind-set and excellent planning and coordination skills.
  • Excellent command of English oral and written is essential.
  • Comprehensive command of Arabic and/or Danish (oral and written) would be a major asset.
  • IT proficiency and solid skills regarding the Microsoft Office program.
  • Great interpersonal skills and team player abilities as well as interest in and willingness to share knowledge with – and learn from – colleagues.
  • Ability to foster and maintain networks.
  •  Ability to work independently and efficiently.

Praktikophold 

Praktikanter til Danmarks ambassade i Saudi Arabien

Den danske ambassade i Riyadh tilbyder praktikophold

Ambassaden søger to gange årligt to studerende til praktikstillinger i henholdsvis den politiske afdeling og handelsafdelingen. Praktikperioden er fra henholdsvis den 1. februar til 31. juli og 1. august til 31. januar.

Ansøgningsfristen for næste praktikanthold er den 7. september 2018.

Ambassaden tilbyder et afvekslende arbejdsmiljø med store personlige og faglige udfordringer. Praktikanterne inddrages i ambassadens daglige funktioner og forskellige arbejdsopgaver. Opholdet giver mulighed for selvstændigt arbejde og for at følge den politiske og økonomiske udvikling i regionen på nært hold. Det er samtidig en enestående mulighed for at opleve livet i et af Mellemøstens politisk vigtige lande, som også i økonomisk og handelsmæssig henseende byder på store muligheder. Kontrasten mellem det traditionelle og det moderne opleves på nært hold i Saudi-Arabien, hvor man desuden får mulighed for at få et indblik i de sociokulturelle mønstre, der gør sig gældende i et muslimsk samfund.

Derudover eksisterer der inden for ambassadekvarteret – Diplomatic Quarter - et rigtig godt socialt netværk mellem særligt de nordiske ambassader.

Ud over Saudi-Arabien dækker ambassaden Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman og Yemen.

Som praktikant vil du blive beskæftiget i en af nedenstående afdelinger:

Handelsafdelingen – Praktikanten vil sammen med det øvrige handelsteam beskæftige sig med økonomisk diplomati og eksportfremme generelt, især i form af formidling mellem danske og saudiarabiske virksomheder. Personlig kontakt til virksomheder både i regionen og i Danmark vil være en del at arbejdet. Praktikanten vil desuden være med til at udarbejde månedlige rapporter, og skabe større sektorfaglig indsigt som et kerneprodukt i Business Council Denmark.

Som praktikant i handelsafdelingen vil du også arbejde meget med de sociale medier - både for at skabe content samt administrere og promovere de handelsmæssige aktiviteter for danske virksomheder. Erfaring, eller interesse for at skabe content (video, billeder og tekst) og skrive rapporter er at foretrække.

Du vil indgå i et team på fem personer, der har høje ambitioner, og hvor vi har utrolig mange projekter for at fremme dansk eksport i Saudi-Arabien, Kuwait, Bahrain og Oman. Du skal være klar til at arbejde med flere forskellige projekter. 

Den politiske og administrative afdeling – Praktikanten vil her beskæftige sig med opgaver inden for det politiske, økonomiske, sektorpolitiske og kulturelle område. Deltagelse i møder, nyhedsovervågning og udarbejdelse af indberetninger er en vigtig del af arbejdsopgaverne. Desuden vil praktikanten også stifte bekendtskab med nogle af de administrative opgaver, som en mellemstor dansk ambassade varetager.

Vilkår:

Praktikanten kan være enten dansk eller udenlandsk statsborger.

For danske statsborgere gælder, at man skal være tilmeldt et studium på en højere læreanstalt i Danmark eller i udlandet.

Udenlandske statsborgere kan tilbydes praktikophold ved en dansk repræsentation, såfremt de har boet i Danmark igennem en længere årrække og på ansøgningstidspunktet har bopæl i Danmark og i øvrigt opfylder forudsætningerne. Det er endvidere en forudsætning, at praktikanten forbliver tilmeldt et studium på den højere danske eller udenlandske læreanstalt under praktikopholdet, og at han eller hun ikke allerede er i besiddelse af en akademisk uddannelse på masterniveau.

En studerende kan kun tildeles ét praktikophold i udenrigstjenesten.

Ambassadens fælles arbejdssprog er engelsk og dansk. Kendskab til arabisk kan være en fordel, men det er ikke et krav.

Som praktikant skal du være indstillet på selv at finansiere opholdet. Ambassaden stiller dog en møbleret delebolig med to separate soveværelser, stue, køkken og badeværelse til rådighed på ambassadecompounden - ansøger skal være indstillet på at denne bolig måske ville skulle deles med en person af det andet køn. Ambassaden yder et mindre kontanttilskud (1.000 kr. pr. måned) til opholdsudgifter iht. reglerne om dokumentation for afholdte udgifter. Praktikanten skal inden opholdet sørge for at tegne rejse- og ulykkesforsikring, som dækker sygdom og dødsfald.

Der gælder en række særlige visumregler for indrejse i Saudi-Arabien. Ambassaden forsøger så vidt muligt at indhente et ”multiple entry”-visum til praktikanten, hvilket blandt andet indebærer en obligatorisk udrejse fra Saudi-Arabien inden for de første 90 dage i landet. Praktikanten forestår selv udgifterne forbundet med visumansøgningen.

Vi søger 2 praktikanter med start 1. februar 2019. Praktikperioden er på 6 måneder.
