The Embassy is seeking to recruit a dynamic, energetic and inventive Cultural and Media Officer.

The Embassy represents the interests of Denmark in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Yemen. The Embassy focuses on government relations, commercial affairs, support for Danish citizens, issuance of visas for travelers to Denmark, and public diplomacy.

The Embassy is recruiting a new local staff member. We are looking for a proactive person who can adjust to various scopes of work. The main content of the position includes but is not limited to:

  • Cultural affairs. The Embassy wants to strengthen the cultural profile of Denmark in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain. The position will entail implementation of the Embassy’s ambitions to ensure events such as music, film, art and theatre in various locations in Saudi Arabia as well as Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman.
  • Press, media and social media. The Embassy is active on social media and has an ambition to streamline and professionalize content and outreach. The position entails building a strong network with journalists’ influencers and generate relevant ideas for media campaigns and attracting interest for interviews and general media coverage of the activities related to the Embassy or Denmark. The job also entails preparation and publication of online content for the Embassy accounts on social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • Public Diplomacy. The Embassy has an ambition to improve the visibility and impact of Denmark and Danish values in the region. Building a strong network with local actors in culture, media and with influencers will be essential. The position also includes assignments to search for and achieve funding for the activities and events. This means that close contact to Danish foundations or cultural institutions will be an integrated part of the daily work. 

Some official travel in the region should be expected just as some administrative and translation assignments will be part of the position.

Required qualifications

  • 2-5 years of professional experience from a government related institution or private sector in the region.
  • A positive, open-minded, innovative, proactive, energetic attitude to handling of assignments.
  • A structured and extrovert mind-set and excellent planning, coordination and implementation skills.
  • Excellent command (written and verbal) of English and Arabic.
  • IT proficiency and significant experience with social media will be an asset.
  • Great interpersonal skills and team player abilities as well as interest in and willingness to share knowledge with – and learn from – colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Flexible and willing to adapt to the changing needs of the Embassy.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under time pressure.
  • Have a high level of integrity including a strong understanding of the Danish zero tolerance on corruption.
  • Knowledge or experience regarding GCC Region, Denmark, the Nordic countries and EU would be an asset.

Employment conditions


  • This is a local position at Royal Danish Embassy in Riyadh, which is compensated according to qualifications and local conditions. You will be offered a full time employment on a local contract based on the relevant local staff rules at the Embassy.
  • Your standard working hours will be 40 hours per week
  • You will be entitled to five (5) weeks of paid holiday per year, accumulating by 2.08 days per month.
  • Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results.
  • As part of your salary you will be covered by a workplace pension scheme.
  • You and your dependent family members will be offered reasonable coverage of sickness expenses.
